In December 2021, Kuunda secured a $2.25 million seed funding round led by Accion Venture Lab, with participation from FINCA Ventures, Launch Africa, Seedstars, Mercy Corps Ventures, Greenhouse Capital, Kepple Africa Ventures, Future Africa, The Magic Fund, and other fintech angel investors.
In December 2024, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation committed $996,598 to Kuunda to enhance cash-in/cash-out agents' access to affordable and convenient financing, further supporting financial inclusion efforts.
The Government of Uganda established a Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) on recognizing Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) are the drivers of socio-economic growth and transformation the world over. Science, Technology and Innovation development is an important determinant of progress and transition from pre-industrial to knowledge-based societies. Therefore, the extent to which a country has harnessed STI has a direct bearing on its level of development.
